Vegetarian & Vegan Indian Food in Turramurra — Full-Flavoured Mains, Not Afterthoughts

North Indian cuisine has one of the richest vegetarian traditions of any food culture in the world — and Jai Ho takes that seriously. Paneer dishes, lentil dals, vegetable curries, and more — these are real mains that meat eaters order just as often. Most dishes can be customised for vegan diets. BYO welcome. You've been to restaurants where the "vegetarian option" is a mushroom risotto or a garden salad with halloumi. One dish for the whole table of vegetarians, while everyone else gets a full page of choices. That's not how it works at Jai Ho. North Indian cuisine was vegetarian before "plant-based" was a marketing term — and our menu in Turramurra reflects that tradition with a range of dishes that stand on their own as full-flavoured mains, not token additions at the bottom of a meat-focused menu.

When You Want Indian Food That Takes Vegetarian Seriously

When You Want Indian Food That Takes Vegetarian Seriously

Maybe you're fully vegetarian and tired of restaurants that treat your diet as an inconvenience. Maybe you're vegan and used to asking "can anything on the menu be made without dairy?" Maybe you're dining with a mixed group — half vegetarian, half meat-eaters — and you want a restaurant where nobody has to compromise. North Indian food is one of the few cuisines where vegetarian dishes have equal status to meat. There's no hierarchy. The paneer tikka is as celebrated as the chicken tikka. The dal makhani is as rich and complex as the lamb rogan josh. The aloo gobi is a main course, not a side. This isn't a modern trend — it's centuries of culinary tradition. If you've been eating Indian food that treats vegetarian as "the stuff next to the real food," you haven't been eating at the right restaurant. Jai Ho changes that.

Our Vegetarian & Vegan Options

Our Vegetarian & Vegan Options

Our vegetarian menu spans the full breadth of North Indian cooking. Paneer dishes — paneer tikka from the tandoor, palak paneer in a spinach-based gravy, paneer butter masala in a rich tomato sauce, and mattar paneer with fresh peas. Paneer is the backbone of North Indian vegetarian cuisine and we prepare it in-house. Lentil dals — dal makhani is our signature: black lentils simmered for hours with butter and cream until the texture is thick and the flavour is deep. We also serve dal tadka and yellow dal for those who want something lighter. Vegetable curries — aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower), chana masala (chickpea curry), baingan bharta (smoky eggplant), and mixed vegetable curries that change with the season. Tandoor vegetables — tandoori mushrooms, paneer tikka, and vegetable seekh kebabs, all cooked in our clay tandoor oven. Biryani — our vegetable biryani uses the same dum method as our meat biryanis: layered basmati rice, saffron, whole spices, sealed and slow-cooked. Breads — all of our breads are vegetarian. Garlic naan, Peshawari naan (stuffed with nuts and coconut), roti, and paratha — baked fresh to order in the tandoor. Most dishes can be customised for vegan diets — we replace cream and butter with plant-based alternatives on request. Just let your server know when you order and we'll handle it. For more detail on allergens and dietary accommodations, see our Dietary Options page. And for the full menu including meat dishes (in case you're dining with a mixed group), see our Menu page.

Vegetarian Indian Dining on the North Shore

Vegetarian Indian Dining on the North Shore

The North Shore has a significant and growing vegetarian community — and finding a restaurant that serves more than one or two vegetarian dishes is harder than it should be. Most restaurants treat vegetarian as a subcategory. Indian restaurants should be different — but not all of them are. Jai Ho's vegetarian menu isn't a subset of the main menu. It IS a main part of the menu. We serve vegetarian diners from Turramurra, Pymble, Killara, Wahroonga, Gordon, St Ives, and Lindfield — including families where some members eat meat and others don't. Our menu makes mixed-diet dining easy because every dish is a proper main, not a consolation prize. We also see regular customers from the South and East Asian communities across the North Shore — many of whom follow vegetarian diets for cultural or religious reasons and appreciate a restaurant that treats vegetarian cooking as a tradition, not a trend.

What to Expect

What to Expect

When you arrive, let your server know about any dietary requirements — vegetarian, vegan, or specific allergens. We'll guide you through the menu and flag which dishes are naturally vegan and which can be adapted. Dishes are prepared fresh to order. If you're vegan, we adjust dairy-based elements (cream, butter, ghee) and let you know what's in each dish. There's no guesswork and no "we can probably do that" — our kitchen handles these requests every day. BYO is welcome, and our non-alcoholic drinks (mango lassi, masala chai, soft drinks) are all vegetarian. We're open 7 nights for dinner and Saturday/Sunday for lunch.
