Picking a restaurant for the family is a negotiation. The kids want something familiar. The adults want something interesting. Everyone wants to be comfortable, and nobody wants to pay $200 for a mediocre meal. Jai Ho Indian Restaurant in Turramurra has been the answer for North Shore families for 15 years — a menu that covers mild butter chicken for the 8-year-old and bold lamb rogan josh for the parents, BYO to keep the bill sensible, and a relaxed atmosphere where nobody glares at your kids for being kids.

When Family Dining at Jai Ho Makes Sense

When Family Dining at Jai Ho Makes Sense

The obvious ones: a Tuesday night when nobody wants to cook. A Friday treat where the family goes out together and everyone gets to pick their own dish. A birthday dinner where three generations sit at the same table and the menu has something for each of them. But there are less obvious ones too. The Sunday lunch where grandparents meet grandchildren and the restaurant needs to handle both butter chicken and dal makhani without rushing anyone. The school holiday dinner where the kids need feeding and the parents need a glass of wine (BYO, of course). The catch-up with another family where six adults and four kids all need to be happy — and the restaurant can't be precious about noise or mess. Jai Ho handles all of these. Our menu is deep enough for every taste, our staff are used to families, and our atmosphere is warm without being stuffy. We're not the kind of restaurant where you feel like you're imposing by bringing children. We're the kind where you feel like you belong.

What Makes Jai Ho Family-Friendly

What Makes Jai Ho Family-Friendly

It starts with the menu. Indian food is naturally family-friendly because it's designed to be shared — a few curries in the middle of the table, rice, naan, a starter or two, and everyone picks what they want. Kids who are nervous about spice can stick to butter chicken, plain naan, or vegetable samosas. Adults who want heat can order their vindaloo without compromise. Our Vegetarian & Vegan Menu is extensive — which matters in a family where one parent is vegetarian, the kids eat chicken, and someone's going through a "no dairy" phase. Everyone gets fed properly, from the same kitchen, at the same table. For larger family gatherings — a reunion, a christening lunch, a milestone birthday — our Function Room seats up to 60 guests with banquet menus at multiple price points. It's a private space upstairs where the family can be as loud as it needs to be. The full Menu is available for browsing online before you visit. If you're coming for the weekend, our Lunch Menu runs Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 3PM — same dishes, more relaxed pace.

Family Dining on the North Shore

Family Dining on the North Shore

The Upper North Shore is full of restaurants that are great for couples but awkward for families. Small tables, no highchairs, menus that assume every diner is over 25, and wine lists that start at $50. Finding a restaurant where families feel genuinely welcome — not just tolerated — takes more effort than it should. Jai Ho has been a family dining staple in Turramurra since 2010. We see families from Pymble, Killara, Wahroonga, Warrawee, Gordon, St Ives, and Lindfield multiple times a week. Many of them have been coming since their kids were in car seats — and now those kids are ordering their own lamb biryani. We're at 1257 Pacific Highway in Turramurra, with free street parking on the surrounding streets. Easy in, easy out — especially important when you've got tired kids in the back seat at 8:30pm.

What to Expect

What to Expect

Book online or call ahead — especially for groups of 5 or more on weekends. When you arrive, our staff will seat you, take your BYO bottles to the table, and give the family time to choose. No one rushes you. Dishes come out as they're ready from the tandoor and kitchen. Naan is baked to order. If the kids are hungry, we can get starters out quickly. For the adults, the curries are worth the wait. Dinner service is 5:30PM to 10PM, 7 nights a week. Lunch is Saturday and Sunday, 11AM to 3PM.
